March came in like a lamb. What a change from a couple of weeks ago.

The last few months our weather has been cloudy, rainy and blustery, Damp and grey, grey, grey. Typical for this part of the world.

Then, mid-February, we moved into a week long cold snap. The temperature never got above freezing even in the middle of the day. RV’s aren’t really designed for winter living and, when your water supply comes from a garden hose running across the ground, you have to get a little creative if you want water to flow out of the tap when you turn the handle. Still, I feel fortunate. We weren’t hit with a polar vortex induced big freeze like they suffered in Texas and other parts of the continent.

Then, one day, the sun came out and the temperature shot up to 48°F (9°C). What a change! Only some puddles and a few patches of white in the shadows to remind us of the recent snowfall and how we curled up under the blankets to stay warm. I even ventured outside for a stroll around the park. Delightful.

We had several very nice spring-like days. I pulled out my camp chair and enjoyed some afternoon sun.

Margaret bought and replanted a new little rosemary plant to replace the one that didn’t survive the winter. (They’re tough little plants but not completely invincible.) We try to have a few fresh herbs handy or get to know some neighbours with an herb garden who will give us a snip or two now and then.

I got up this morning and put on the coffee. The overnight rain had stopped. The sun was trying to peek through the clouds — without much success. An occasional blast of wind rattled the windows and shook the hedges outside.

So, I’m not packing up my warm jacket and fluffy comforter just yet. After all, you know what they say: if March comes in like a lamb, it goes out like a lion.

  1. Hi Vello, Good to hear your weather is getting better. After a few weeks of very cold weather here in Western Montana we have reached the low 50’s today. We have been prepping our raised beds and have some lettuce started under lights. Not that I am anxious to get in the garden. It feels good to be outside. We are relieved to have both gotten our Covid vaccines. Best wishes, Dorothy
