It’s a good thing we’re so mellow here in southern California because our plans to go to Mexico have gone awry.

Our plans to head to Puerto Peñasco were thwarted when, in early December, there was a sudden announcement that in two days the Lukeville border crossing between the US and Mexico was closing for an indefinite period. No hints as to how long. Some US Border Patrol activity necessitated pulling all their border staff.

Then, abruptly, it opened again about a month later. That was just long enough to allow the regular winter visitors to cancel their travel plans and to throw the tourist dependent city of Puerto Peñasco into crises.

We went to Palm Springs instead.

As the end of January drew closer and with the border open again Margaret suggested we head down. So we bolted and, two days later, rolled into Playa Bonita RV Park and our site overlooking the Sea of Cortez.

So here we are. Happy we’re here. The park is quieter than we’ve ever seen it in February. Stores are closed. Beach vendors are scarce. The place does not have the busy vibe that’s always been present. But the sunsets are as good as ever.
